William N. Hait, MD, PhD, global head, Janssen Research & Development, LLC, part of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Research!America, the nation’s largest nonprofit advocacy alliance working to make research to improve health a higher national priority. Research!America advocates for federal funding and a legislative and regulatory climate that supports the entire research ecosystem, ranging from basic research to industry research and development.
“I am very honored to be elected to serve on the Research!America Board of Directors,” Dr. Hait said. “Innovation and scientific research are critical to developing new solutions for serious unmet health care needs, and organizations like Research!America are essential in ensuring that medical innovation continues to be a priority for our society.”
Hait leads Janssen’s global R&D group in its mission to discover and develop innovative medicines to address the world’s most serious unmet medical needs.

Prior to joining the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, Hait was the founding director of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and professor of medicine and pharmacology and associate dean for oncology programs at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from January 1993 to March 2007. Under Hait’s leadership, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey was successful in obtaining cancer center designation from the National Cancer Institute in 1996 and received the National Cancer Institute’s highest designation of Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2002. Hait has served as the president of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and has served on various committees for the AACR, American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Association of American Cancer Institutes, and the National Cancer Institute Board of Scientific Advisors.
